Haleiwa fire caused by combustibles stored on stove top
Investigators determined a Haleiwa duplex fire was caused by combustibles being stored on the stove top and the burner being accidentally turned on.
When the firefighters arrived Monday afternoon, heavy white smoke was spewing from a window of unit B at 66-779 Haleiwa Road.
A man living at the duplex was not at home at the time, but two of his four dogs were.
Firefighters let the dogs out.
Nineteen firefighters from six units responded to the 3:34 p.m. alarm, with the first unit arriving at 3:40 p.m., said Honolulu Fire Department Capt. Scot Seguirant.
The fire was brought under control at 3:53 p.m., and fully extinguished at 4:16 p.m. Seguirant said.
