Waikoloa man dies after single-vehicle crash on Hawaii island
A 53-year-old man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Kailua-Kona Sunday.
He has been identified as Michael Shine of Waikoloa.
Hawaii County police said a silver 2013 Dodge Caravan operated by Shine was traveling northbound on Queen Kaahumanu Highway near the 85-mile marker when it veered onto the southbound lane and struck a guardrail at approximately 7:15 a.m.
Shine was taken to North Hawaii Community Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Police said speed and alcohol were not involved.
An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

This is the 26th traffic-related fatality on Hawaii island. The same number of traffic fatalities occurred on the island at the same time last year.
