Man charged with sexually assaulting UH-Hilo student
Hawaii island police have charged a man who was wanted for allegedly sexually assaulting a student at the University of Hawaii at Hilo last week.
Daniel Brooks, 26, who has no permanent address, was arrested in downtown Hilo at about 10 a.m. Saturday and charged later that day with fourth-degree sexual assault. His bail was set at $500, which he was unable to post, police said.
On Friday, police released a photo from surveillance video of a possible suspect in the sexual assault, which allegedly happened Thursday night.
Police said officers responded to the campus at about 8 p.m. Thursday and discovered a woman reported to campus security that an unknown man had accosted her in a restroom on campus about a half-hour earlier.
The victim described the suspect as about 6 feet tall, wearing black denim pants and a backpack.
