Volcano park post office, mail delivery to Leilani Estates to resume Tuesday
The U.S. Postal Service announced that will resume operations in parts of Hawaii island that were impacted by the Kilauea eruption in May, starting Tuesday.
The National Park Post Office, located within Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park, reopens for business as usual on Tuesday, with normal hours of operation from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on weekdays. The office had been closed since May 11, when the national park closed due to safety concerns.
Mail delivery to the Leilani Estates subdivision, which was suspended in May, will resume on Tuesday. The Pahoa Post Office will, however, limit delivery to addresses on the streets between Highway 130 and Alapai Street. Leilani residents should check with the post office to clarify whether this delivery resumption includes their addresses. Those with suspended delivery can continue to receive their mail at the Pahoa Post Office.
USPS said it will continue to assess the feasibility of resuming delivery to additional areas of Leilani Estates, but that the safety of its employees and the security of the mail is its priority.
