Prosecutors charged a 22-year-old man in connection with the shooting death of a 40-year-old man near Haleiwa Beach Park early Saturday.

Kaden K. Kanae appeared at Honolulu District Court today after he was charged Sunday night with second-degree murder and firearm-related charges involving the death of the victim identified in court records as Thomas McCandless Jr.

Kanae’s bail is set at $1 million.

He was free on bail at the time of the deadly shooting for a robbery case in Waikiki.

Of Saturday’s shooting in Haleiwa, police said Kanae and McCandless were involved in a fight at approximately 12:45 a.m. Saturday at which time Kanae allegedly shot McCandless.

He was taken to Wahiawa General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police arrested Kanae in Wahiawa at about 4:25 a.m. that morning on suspicion of murder and criminal contempt of court.

He was free on bail at the time of the shooting for the Waikiki robbery case that occurred in August.
