Hawaii County announced Monday that the Disaster Recovery Center in Pahoa, which has been assisting survivors of the Kilauea eruption, will close permanently on Friday.

The center, which first opened in mid-June at Keaau High School, and is now at the Pahoa Neighborhood Facility, 15-3022 Kauhale St., will maintain its hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. this week until the closing date.

It is staffed with representatives of the Federal Emergency Management Agency and U.S. Small Business Administration, as well as other agencies.

Survivors are encouraged to stay in touch with FEMA through the application process. Applicants should notify FEMA of changes to their information such as a mailing address, phone numbers and email address. Applicants also may upload insurance settlement information or other documents online.

Homeowners and renters also can update their information online at DisasterAssistance.gov, by calling 800-621-3362 or downloading the FEMA mobile app. Questions regarding SBA’s low-interest disaster loans and applications can be directed to the SBA Customer Service Center at 800-659-2955.
