Man charged with assaulting police officer in Halawa

Ikaika Maugeri was charged Saturday with assaulting a law enforcement officer in Halawa.
A 30-year-old man was charged with assaulting a police officer in Halawa.
Ikaika Maugeri was charged Saturday, and his bail was set at $45,000.
Police said Maugeri assaulted the 50-year-old officer while he was being arrested near the Pearl City offramp from the H-3 freeway at about 4 p.m. Friday. After his arrest, police also determined Maugeri was a suspect in an auto theft.
Police said the officer sustained substantial bodily injury and was treated at a hospital.
