A woman walks at Waialae Beach in Kahala during high tide in May 2017. Officials said a woman was injured today when she was struck by a boat propeller in the ocean off Kahala.

A 27-year-old woman suffered serious injuries from a boat propeller this afternoon offshore of the Kahala area, according to city officials.

At about 1:30 p.m., Honolulu Ocean Safety, Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services responded to a call for the woman, who was with a group when she was injured by the vessel’s propeller.

The boat that struck the woman was reported to be 45 feet long and called the Sea Fox, a city source said.

Honolulu Fire Department Capt. Scot Seguirant said firefighters responded to 377 Keahole St. to assist paramedics with the woman’s injuries.

An employee of Island Divers Hawaii, which is located at the address, said the company did not immediately have any comment about the incident, which involved the Sea Fox, one of the company’s boats.

The woman sustained serious injuries to both legs and feet, an Emergency Medical Services report said.

Lifeguards boarded the vessel and administered medical treatment for the patient en route to Koko Marina, where paramedics met the boat and administered life-saving treatment. EMS transported the woman to an emergency room.

The state Department of Land and Natural Resources forwarded questions to the U.S. Coast Guard, which is investigating.

A spokesman for the Coast Guard said further information was not immediately available because the case was under investigation.
