Officials with the Kapolei Properties Division and the city celebrated Wednesday the completion of $50 million in improvement projects for Kalaeloa Boulevard and related development.
Kalaeloa Boulevard is the main thoroughfare between Campbell Industrial Park and Kapolei and is used by an estimated 40,000 vehicles daily. Besides the industrial park, Kalaeloa Boulevard is also the way in and out of Kalaeloa Harbor and Kapolei Business Park.
The work began in summer 2015 and Wednesday marked the formal transfer of the improvements to the city from Kapolei Properties, a division of the James Campbell Co. Campbell is the largest private landowner in the region.
Among the key improvements:
>> Widening, rebuilding and signalizing of the 1.2-mile stretch of Kalaeloa Boulevard from Lauwiliwili to Malakole streets. The section is now six lanes, up from four, and includes traffic signals at major cross streets.
>> Construction of the new Kalaeloa Wastewater Pump Station and accompanying sewer transmission system that are to accommodate the expected growth in the area. The new facilities replace temporary improvements that had been in place since the early 1990s.
