Aina Haina food pantry damaged by flood reopens
An Aina Haina food pantry damaged by the mid-April flood reopened its doors to the community on Thursday.
Angel Network Charities,, owned and operated by Calvary by the Sea Lutheran Church, is the Hawaii Foodbank’s largest food distributing agency in East Oahu and serves more than 2,500 people each month. Thanks to food and monetary donations from the community, its shelves were stocked with perishable and non-perishable items.
“Hawaii Foodbank’s network of agencies are an integral part in carrying out our mission to ensure that no man, woman or child goes unfed,” said Ron Mizutani, President and CEO of Hawaii Foodbank in a news release. “Due to the generosity of Servco Pacific, Nagoya Toyopet Co. and other organizations that have supported relief efforts in restoring one of our largest food distribution centers, we are thrilled to have Angel Network Charities reopen its doors and continue to help those suffering from hunger.”
Pastor Tim mason of Calvary by the Sea said restoration of the food pantry is almost complete after weeks of hard work.
“We are eternally grateful for all those who have donated their time, means and talent so we may continue to serve those who need us the most,” he said.
Founded in 1988, Angel Network Charities distributes perishable and non-perishable food items such as fresh fruits and vegetables, baked goods, dairy products and beverages on the first Thursday and second Friday of each month.
