Hawaiian Airlines has been the national on-time performance leader for each of the past 14 years, but it finished second in January with 88.3 percent of its flights arriving within 15 minutes of their scheduled arrival time, according to new data.

Hawaiian Airlines has relinquished its usual top position as the most punctual carrier in the country.
The state’s largest airline, which has been the national on-time performance leader for each of the past 14 years, finished second in January with 88.3 percent of its flights arriving within 15 minutes of their scheduled arrival time, according to data released Thursday by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Alaska Airlines took over the top spot with an 88.9 percent on-time ranking out of the 18 airlines listed. The U.S. average was 79.6 percent.
In other categories, Hawaiian had the fewest flight cancellations with 0.2 percent out of 6,627 flights. Hawaiian had the eighth-fewest mishandled- baggage reports with 3.26 out of 1,000 passengers. And Hawaiian had the ninth-fewest consumer complaints with 1.05 per 100,000 passengers. All the categories listed 18 airlines except for baggage reports, which listed only 13 airlines.
