Hawaii island police are investigating the death of a woman who may have been arguing in the roadway before she was struck by a vehicle in Pahoa.

Positive identification is pending notification of next of kin.

At about 9:40 p.m. Tuesday, a 40-year-old Pahoa woman was driving a 2006 Ford sedan southbound on Highway 130 near Launahele Road when she struck the pedestrian, police said.

The pedestrian may have been arguing with a male on the road prior to the collision, police said.

She was transported to Hilo Medical Center where she died. An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

Police said the driver was not hurt. No arrests have been made at this time.

Police are seeking witnesses to the crash. Anyone with information is urged to call police officer Clarence Acob at 961-2329.

This is the fourth traffic-related fatality on the Big Island this year. The same number of traffic fatalities occurred on the island at the same time last year.
