Firefighters responded to multiple house flooding on Maui
Maui firefighters responded to multiple reports of residences being flooded during Sunday’s intense torrential rains.
At 1:45 p.m., MFD personnel made it through flooded roads to assist residents of a home off Kahekili Highway flooded by water overflowing the Waihee River.
The firefighters had to detour around a flooded section of the highway between Makaala Drive and Waiehu Beach Road but made it across another flooded section just north of Waihee Elementary School to reach the house.
There, the caller alerted firefighters to a 15-year-old boy next door who was stranded on the second floor when water rushed through the lower level of the house.
A Hazmat crew also assisted the man in removing items from his house, which was also flooded. All four residents of the home were able to exit without injury.
Two other homes on River Road were affected by flash flooding. No injuries were reported from the other homes.
