Man dies in pedestrian accident in Ewa Beach
A 58-year-old man has died after he was struck by a car in Ewa Beach early today.
Family members identified him as Larry Kalani, according to KHON2.
Shortly after 4:30 a.m., police said a 26-year-old Ewa Beach man was traveling eastbound on Fort Weaver Road in a silver 2000 Toyota Camry when the vehicle struck the pedestrian who was in a marked crosswalk near Pohakupuna Road.
Lt. Ben Moszkowicz, acting captain of the Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division, said the driver was heading home from work at the time of the collision when he struck the pedestrian.
The 58-year-old man was walking to the bus stop on Fort Weaver Road to head to work. Police said he sustained head and bodily injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Speed, alcohol or drugs were not involved.

Though the collision occurred during the early morning hours while it was still dark, Moszkowicz said the area is well lit with two bright LED street lights directly over the marked crosswalk.
Police had shut down lanes surrounding the site to conduct an investigation.
This is the sixth traffic-related fatality on Oahu compared to three at the same time last year.
