The state’s Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement officers are investigating the theft of rocks from Kaena Point State Park.
A Department of Land and Natural Resources volunteer reported seeing people loading into a pickup truck rocks from one of the popular beaches inside the park and apparently concealing the rocks with surfboards. By the time a DOCARE officer arrived, the truck was gone.
DLNR spokeswoman Deborah Ward said DOCARE has the make, model and license plate number of the pickup truck and is investigating. If the suspects and evidence are found, they could be cited, and their vehicle access permit to Kaena Point State Park could be revoked.
Obtaining a permit comes with a lot of conditions, Ward said. The permit holder receives an access code to get through a gate, and the vehicle must remain on the marked dirt road.
