Switzerland-based ARYZTA, which accounts for a large portion of the bun business in Hawaii, is shutting down its Waipahu bakery on Feb. 3. Production at the bakery is set to end Jan. 18.

“ARYZTA is closing its bakery in Waipahu as the result of a business decision to operate our U.S. bakery network more efficiently, so that we can keep bringing the best value and quality to our customers while staying competitive,” spokeswoman Tracy Stecko said.

Stecko said ARYZTA plans to support the Hawaii market through a consolidation with one of its California bakeries.

The company declined to say how many employees would be affected by the closure.

‘Ekahi Health, a member of the ‘ike family of companies, has hired the following three team members:

>> Jasmine Lee is a new nurse case manager. Her responsibilities are to actively monitor and coordinate all clinical aspects of the ‘Ekahi Ornish Lifestyle Medicine initiatives as well as its participants. Lee was previously a clinic and patient coordinator at the Queen’s Medical Center.

>> Briana Shea-­O’Connell is a new nurse case manager. Prior to joining the organization, Shea-O’Connell gained extensive registered nurse experience at several hospices and hospitals, including at St. Francis Hospice, where she worked in the inpatient unit, after-hours triage and admissions.

>> Erin Gallo is a new registered dietitian. Her responsibility is to oversee participants’ nutrition in her assigned cohorts. Gallo previously served as a registered dietitian at Kaiser Permanente in Irvine and Anaheim, Calif.
