A high-surf advisory was canceled Monday morning after east-facing shores of all islands saw 5-to-8 feet waves thanks to a north-northeast swell.

National Weather Service forecasters said light to moderate surges and waves breaking at channel entrances can be expected for all north-facing harbors, including Haleiwa, Kahului and Hilo, through tonight.

Meanwhile, light surface winds will continue tonight as a weak low lingers far north of the islands.

Gentle tradewinds are expected to return Monday, with showers shifting to mainly windward facing slopes. A weak upper level trough is forecast to move near the islands starting Tuesday, which could result in a slight increase in trade showers.

In Kahului, rainfall on Saturday set a record for the date. The mark of 0.24 inch broke the old record of .014 inch, set in 1966, the weather service said.
