Man charged in Kakaako shooting incident
A 27-year-old man has been charged in connection with gunshots fired inside an apartment at a residential building in Kakaako.
Daniel Y. Lee was charged Thursday with ownership or possession prohibited of any firearm or ammunition by a person convicted of certain crimes and promoting a harmful drug in the fourth-degree. His arraignment is scheduled for Thursday. Lee’s bail has been set at $50,000.
Police dispatchers received calls of multiple gunshots fired inside an apartment on the 24th floor at Kamakee Vista, 1065 Kawaiahao St. at about 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Police said a woman and her 4-year-old boy sustained minor, non-life threatening injuries from wood that splintered when a bullet struck their wall or door. The mother and son live in an apartment one or two doors away from the twins.
Patrol officers responded to the gunshots and the suspects later identified as Lee and his twin brother refused to exit their apartment. Police evacuated residents on the 23th through 25th floors and the SWAT team responded.
The twins eventually exited their apartment and surrendered to police at about 1:40 a.m. Wednesday. Police released Lee’s twin brother Thursday pending further investigation.
