U.S. GEOLOGICAL SURVEY

A preliminary magnitude 4.3 quake struck today at 10:09 a.m., 54 miles southwest of Hawaiian Paradise Park at a depth of 24.1 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

A light earthquake struck off Hawaii island today, but posed no tsunami threat.

The magnitude 4.5 quake struck at 10:09 a.m., 16 miles southeast of Hawaiian Ocean View at a depth of 24 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

“No tsunami is expected. However, some areas may have experienced shaking,” the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said in a statement.

No injuries were reported.

The USGS’ “Did you feel it?” website survey received more than 150 reports, including several from more than 200 miles away on Oahu.

The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory’s seismic network manager Brian Shiro said in a news release that the deep earthquake was due to bending of the oceanic plate from the weight of the island and poses no significant hazard.
