Salvation Army celebrates National Donut Day

STEVEN TONTHAT / STONTHAT@STARADVERTISER.COM

Salvation Army “Donut Lassie” Toni Stock dropped off donuts with Star-Advertiser staffer Zenaida Serrano.

Need any more convincing to celebrate Donut Day? Didn’t think so. Head to a participating bakery and pick up a free doughnut today. In fact, buy a whole dozen or two and help the Salvation Army in the process.

The participating bakeries on Oahu are Regal Bakery’s three locations, KouWork in Kakaako and Pipeline Bakery & Cafe in Kaimuki (which is offering a malassada); on Kauai, Daylight Donuts in Lihue and Aloha Sweet Delites in Kaumakani,; and on Maui, Krispy Kreme in Kahului. Times for the donut giveaway vary at each location.

A portion of proceeds from additional doughnut sales at these shops will be donated to the Salvation Army. You can also drop by the charity’s thrift stores on all islands for a free donut until noon and enjoy a 25 percent discount on all items except furniture.

For Homer Simpson-size doughnut fiends, a jumbo glazed donut is being sold for $3.99 at all Oahu 7-Eleven stores, which is donating 20 percent of net proceeds from each sale.
