Forecasters at the National Weather Service posted a special weather statement this morning ahead of expected coastal flooding due to record-level spring “king” tides.

“Impacts will include beach flooding and standing water on roadways and low-lying areas near the coast through the weekend,” weather officials said in a statement.

A large summer south swell is expected to roll in Friday and continue building through the holiday weekend, forecasters said. The resulting possible advisory-level surf is forecast to have maximum coastal impact in Honolulu during the daily high tides Friday at 5:07 p.m. and Saturday at 5:55 p.m. Neighbor islands have similar high tide times.
