A 25-year-old man accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend in Kalihi Valley made his initial court appearance Monday in District Court.
Dustin Ferrentino-Raymond was charged Saturday with attempted second-degree murder. Judge James Kawashima confirmed his bail at $250,000.
At about 12:30 a.m. Friday, police said, a 31-year-old woman and a passenger were traveling on Kalihi Street in a black Lexus when a man identified as Ferrentino-Raymond pulled up next to her in a brown Ford Explorer near Nalanieha Street. According to a court document, he then fired multiple shots at her with a revolver before he fled.
A bullet struck the left side of her upper back. Her passenger didn’t suffer any injuries.
Police said the woman drove off and flagged down an officer near the 2600 block of Kalihi Street, where she and her passenger yelled that Ferrentino-Raymond had shot at them. The victim told police she believed the vehicle had fled toward the Wilson Tunnel on Likelike Highway.
Police said the woman had dated Ferrentino-Raymond for about six months before they broke up about a week before the shooting.
Paramedics transported the victim in serious condition to a hospital.
An all-points bulletin was issued for the Ford Explorer, and police spotted it just after 2:40 a.m. at Punchbowl and King streets. The driver, who was not Ferrentino-Raymond, was arrested on suspicion of driving without a license.
The man told police an unidentified person picked him up from a convenience store near the Hawai‘i Convention Center after his aunt called him and asked him to pick up her vehicle in Kaneohe and bring it back to Honolulu. The court document said the owner of the Ford Explorer is the man’s aunt and Ferrentino-Raymond’s current girlfriend.
Police said the man rode with the unidentified person to Kaneohe, then drove the Ford Explorer to Honolulu and was stopped by police.
At about 9:45 p.m. Friday, officers found Ferrentino- Raymond at the parking structure of The Plaza Hotel on North Nimitz Highway and arrested him.
He has a criminal record of terroristic threatening and driving without a license.
