The North Shore is lined with tasty temptations, from the shrimp trucks to the shave ice stands. If you’ve overindulged, the antidote would be a nice, icy portion of fresh fruit.
A good source is the collective loosely known as the Kahuku Land Farms stand.
Bright, colorful bags of cut fruit are sold here — from familiar pineapple, mango and watermelon, to more exotic guava, dragon fruit and rambutan. Most of it is grown on farms just behind the stand, on land leased out by the Turtle Bay Resort.
Can’t beat that for fresh.
Priced at $3 to $5, the bags would tuck neatly into a cooler, with enough for two or three people to share. Whole fruit and some vegetables are also available, as well as coconuts with the tops cut off, so you can drink the liquid and eat the fresh meat. A little touristy, maybe, but still — yum.
And although the pitch here is fresh and healthful, you know what’s also great? The $1 fried bananas, like lumpia but with extra-long crunchy shells.
