McCully house fire was intentionally set

Police are investigating an arson case after a fire at an unoccupied home was determined to be intentionally set.

At about 10:13 p.m. Monday, police and firefighters responded to the fire at a single-story duplex home at 707 Paani St. When they arrived, they observed smoke emanating from the structure and flames in the kitchen, said Honolulu Fire Spokesman Capt. David Jenkins.

Firefighters brought the fire under control by 10:21 p.m. and extinguished it within a couple of minutes.

Jenkins said the home is unoccupied due to renovation work. No injuries were reported and a damage estimate has yet to be determined.

Police said it was discovered the fire had been intentionally set with an unknown accelerant. The suspects are unknown at this time.
