Police fatally shoot man in stolen vehicle in Aiea
Honolulu police said two officers fatally shot a man this morning at a townhome subdivision near Pearlridge Center in Aiea after he allegedly tried to run them over in a stolen vehicle.
Before 9 a.m., police responded to a suspicious vehicle parked at a townhome subdivision on Ualo Street near Pearlridge Center.
A man and a woman were asleep in the dark blue-colored vehicle. Officers discovered it was a stolen vehicle.
When the two people were ordered to exit the vehicle, the driver started up the vehicle in an attempt to flee, said Maj. Dagan Tsuchida of the Pearl City Police Substation.
One officer was dragged by the vehicle and two officers were about to be pinned when officers fired shots at the driver.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Three officers were taken to Pali Momi Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

scary
Fools, quit stealing other people’s stuff, just cuz this government steals from all of us daily does not give you the right to steal other people’s stuff. Good riddance.
probably the chronics who stole my trunck and abandoned in that area! Good Riddance, too bad HPD didn’t shoot the lady. “smh” LOSE MONEY. I have no sympathy for crooks, thieves, etc. as they chose to take drugs
Can’t wait for the Girl survivor and parents of the dead chronic giving the Libertard Press SA the good ole boy story that he’d never do anything wrong.
He was just changing his life around. Well HPD changed it for him. Good job HPD.
^^^ my hat off to HPD, so to say. Congrats!
When the family gets interviewed on TV, they’ll say something like “He was a good kid, he was turning his life around” Camera pulls away, family crying, and then loud voice “How come da cops neva shoot him in da leg”
Scary area
Seriously? It’s obvious you’ve never been in this area.
Another unarmed man in a vehicle killed by HPD. The story is ALWAYS the same – he tried to run an officer over so we shot him, Yea right. The Justice department needs to investigate HPD, they are becoming completely out of control due to weak leadership and Shopo influence with elected officials.
Driving a stolen car is not a capital offense, time and again Police have killed unarmed people who try to escape arrest. It’s just not right.
Maybe if you stopped reporting your cars as stolen then police wouldn’t need to find them and the drivers…A Perfect World…#MAGA
You can saywhatyouthink but you try to run a cop over with a car what you want him to do. Ket you go so you can harm someone else. Sorry, but this guy had a death wish!
The article says that one officer was being dragged by the vehicle and two more were about to be pinned. That’s not reason enough to try to stop him? So easy to judge when you weren’t involved.
Bet you wouldn’t say that if it was your vehicle.
Or if they were the one being dragged.
A car is a deadly weapon. Officers are allowed to use deadly force when a person is using deadly force, check out the HRS. Based on what SA posted officers justified, officer being dragged, suspect operating vehicle refusing to lawful order to stop, in fact crashing it now posing more of a danger to public, looks like a good shoot to me .
a good way to ease overcrowding in jails. and justified.
They should shoot more of these thugs. I would rather they use bullets, cuz it’s cheaper for us taxpayers.
Why is there no responsibility on the perp to simply do as he was told? What sort of consequence one suffers is normally the result of ones actions.
Just a cop hater. The guy could have been shooting the cops with a machine gun, but this guy would have said “Why can’t they shoot him in the leg or the shoulder!” Just a cop hater, period!
Don’t understand people. They think they can get away and end up their the one’s that gets hurt or in this case killed.
Drugs! and HPD is wising up! Officers are hanging on to the car if possible to do so and doing that having a case to waste the suspect(s). Chee Ho! HPD
When will officers learn not to be on foot when ordering a driver in a stolen car to exit? Really? Box um in, use the PA system, then standby for compliance. How many officers stand in front of the car and bark commands? Very poorly trained.
I guess you have to be there to understand their actions!
good point – and NB WAS NOT????! or maybe he was…..??? how did he know that the officers were standing “in front of the car” at the time? the car was reported to have backed up, then driven forward aiming for the officers. hmmmm???
Cops want to be in line of the drive if possible, it gives HPD a good excuse to shoot the Chronic(s) not obeying orders to get out of the vehicle. LOSE MONEY handcuffing these scums and incarcerating them only to see them back on the streets like the revolving door.
I don’t think HPD is that stupid standing in harms way, I’d believe their pistols are drawn, arms fully extended, finger on trigger, etc.. Make the wrong move and Hasta La Vista, Baby
LOL. You have NO idea what you are talking about. Too much TV.
Agreed, TOO much TV…
How come your not backing the cops? You never bad mouthed them before when Kealoha was in charge?
nb cannot decide coherently whom to support – only that he has to write inane comments about topics he has no knowledge. i equate his comments to the “allie” comments – EMPTY AND IMPERTINENT! living in a shielded and entitled world has a way of creating these types of people. AUWE!
NB is a paid rail shill, but after the FTA and Trump pull federal funding, that will be the beginning of the end of the Oahu train to nowhere project. Got to find someplace else to post. As someone else mentioned once Kealoha is no longer chief, the Hawaii Demo elite loyalty to HPD is gone and they are free to talk stink about HPD
IRT nanakuli, if the driver was TheDonald himself I’d still be proud of our HPD crack shot. There’s no politics in crime even those of Illegal migrants in the US. Illegal = illegal, a crime is a crime, etc. When the cops tell you to do something YOU DO, don’t resist unless you wanna get manhandled or worse yet die like this scum bag did. aBout time HPD ditches the PC route and doing what they do without their hands tied behind their back.
That’s an asinine statement. You don’t know the circumstances.
You should submit your ideas to the police there boss. I’m sure they’d appreciate it.
Thanks for your replies, guys and gals. I tend to lean on the side of safety. One officer dragged means that he was on foot. Probably reaching for the steering wheel or keys. That also means he didn’t fear or see the occupants with a weapon. Officer 2 “about” to get pinned? Hmmm, subjective to speculate. Anyway hope that the new chief gets the Tactical Approach to Sleepy Suspect Training or TASST. Over and out.
Unless you’ve walked in the shoes of the cops, your opinion of the situation is shibai.
Obviously suffering from Hoof in Mouth disease.
Box them in, use the PA, and wait for compliance? Really? So what happens if they dont want to comply? You expect HPD to just sit there and wait forever? The driver didnt comply when there were 3 cops knocking on the door, then tried to run the cops over. Even if he was boxed in like you suggest, this guy crashed into 2 houses and another car while trying to get away, what makes you think he wont try and ram the cars blocking him in? This clown had more than enough opportunities to comply and he didnt.
No one has a taser?
Sometimes it does not work. Guy sitting behind the wheel of a car is sitting behind a deadly weapon. That’s now a new terrorist weapon. Officers are being trained diffently now, nationally. Some agencies going to larger caliber bullet hoping to penetrate car door.
ok use the taser and then shoot him. that’ll work too.
Tasers cannot penetrate glass.
I thought you said to not be on foot and the officers should stay in the car. How would you taser someone from the car!!!
How do you tase a guy in a moving car? You should give HPD tactical lessons.
Excellent! One less p o s running around.
Good job HPD. This guy caused his own demise.
Kill it before it multiplies.
We should do that with the homeless too.
I don’t know about you but my car feels safe already.
Great shot. HPD been practicing.
one less criminal on this island, good job hpd
Who needs a new prison when we can eliminate criminals this way!
BINGO
You are so right….Great Comment!!!
Draining the swamp.
The only surprise here is that an HPD officer fired his weapon and actually hit the correct target. Happy ending all around, but maybe next time one of the “veteran” officers could be there (you know, the one who’s “proud” to have never drawn his weapon and barely makes qualification every year) and the wahine with warrants would’ve taken a couple of collateral slugs as well.
To their credit, I know a lot of younger officers who take tactical and firearms training very seriously. Granted, they’re training hard because they want to get the hell out of HPD and into a federal agency but, unlike the good old boys sleeping in the Zippy’s parking lot, they’re training the right way and it’s showing.
Almost a good post…
I bet these new dedicated and professional HPD officers are glad that Kealoha is gone. The feds need to remove the other Kealoha and if both are found guilty in federal court of committing felony crimes, BOTH need to spend time in federal prison.
Seems like a sure-fire way to get killed — try to run over police in a stolen car. When I read a story like this, I always think — crystal meth.
Most likely
In Hawaii we are really blessed to live in Paradise. I just come back from Chicago……
Need to say more?
Good perspective.
in Hawaii equals less problems being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I once asked a Chicago cabbie about the crime in Chicago and he says it’s mostly being in the wrong place at the wrong time. lol, how can one live li dat? Gotta get vouchers to move out of the ghettos, man.
But…but…but… Democrats and teacher unions and King Barry Hussein say that vouchers are stupid and anyone who supports them are bigots and racists and any black family that wants to move their kids to a better school outside the ghetto are Uncle Toms and stupid and brainwashed by the GOP! King Barry would’ve loved to attend a drug and crime infested school in the ghetto but his racist white family forced him into those awful, racist charter-type voucher-type schools where he suffered for years. You know…Punahou…Occidental…Harvard.
If Barry’d had the chance to attend a proper public school in the Chicago ghetto, Hillary would’ve won!!
My daughter goes to a NY college. One of her Black friends went back home to chicago for xmas vacation. While sitting on his porch, a black thug walked up to him on his porch and gunned him down. Sad very sad. She said he such a kind thoughtful guy. BTW dad is Chicago PD, Me thinks retaliation hit. Either way sad. In the murder capitol.
Good job HPD
These criminals had no Aloha for the victim – the owner of the car. The woman who was arrested should be sent to Arizona when incarcerated, and made to pay off for the damages to the vehicle. I swear the penal system for our state has no Aloha for the victims.
You got that right.
Release her and let her work it off in Joe Souki’s Brothel.
Who would want her.
Oh well.. one less crook.
Could’ve/Should’ve been two less.
Another one bites the dust. Sorry dust.
One less car thief….
The woman will be back on the streets with another outstanding warrant added to her outstanding warrants and will be on Crime Stoppers and Hawaii’s Most Wanted. But can’t say the same for the guy.
Bad for a bail bondsman?
Eating @ Anna Millers this morning when 3 HPD w/ sirens blaring goes by… Must be serious, they hardly use their sirens.
So that’s what happened. Good Job HPD.
Justice has been served.
despite noisy chest thumping posters here, taking the life of another is difficult to deal with.
hope the officers involved take advantage of the ad leave to meet with their counselors, hug their family and then get back to their police career.
try doing the same thing over and over again, it’s gets redundant and boring. Gotta change the scenery sometimes you know
Thats right, take some time off. Also, I do have sympathy for the family of the deceased. No matter what, the deceased was family!
ok, for what it’s worth. My condolences to his family. Maybe they tried to get him cleaned up and maybe loved him even in his criminal ways. We gotta stop the Drugs coming into the US, the Drugs made his li dat. Build the Wall
No way to stop them, when we are in effect de facto legalizing them. Leg wants to add stress, insomnia, and depression to the approve illnesses for med mar. Everyone qualifies.
wrong drug. weed doesn’t make people go all nuts like that.
Bdpapa and Pocho, your compassionate comments are well taken to those of us who believed the deceased will have someone or more loved ones that will mourn their losses. Being compassionate retain the good in every individual, the basis for a peaceful mind and heart. The cornerstones of decency and love among us all! Compassionate and understanding are virtues less seen and experienced in this day and age.
cholo likes your post. compassion is a dying emotion and especially rare among online commenters.
Why should these HPD officers lose any sleep for neutralizing the deadly threat created by someone who tried to kill them with a motor vehicle? They should sleep well at night that their actions took a dangerous person out of society and allowed all of the officers to return home safe to their families. Unless you or anyone else has evidence to contradict the chain of events as reported, the investigation should be swift and the officers cleared to return to full duty with commendations for handling a difficult situation.
I for one would certainly be interested in seeing video of this murder. That’s why Shopo refuses to allow body cams for all officers. They would become accountable for their actions. Does it not bother you that the story is always the same when HPD kills an unarmed man? They view their actions as justified because he is in a car. All they have to do is say he tried and failed to run over a cop. Not hard to do when you stand in front of the car.
Are you still in OCCC? Get a life.
Unarmed? The vehicle was a weapon. One steps on the gas pedal & accelerates the vehicle. Same as someone pulling to the trigger that propels a bullet.
Tell you what…stand 20 feet in front of my car as I rev my engine for about a minute. Keep standing there as I accelerate toward you. Feel threatened? Why? I am “unarmed”. #Thinkbeforeyousay
not only did the thug put officers lives in danger he also put the residents in harms way. hawaii news now reported that he struck one of the apartments that was occupied.
you rather hpd wait until he kills some innocent person first before taking him out? smh
^^^ you ain’t never gonna change/convince the Libertards/Democrats ways, they won’t even admit guilt, spew speculative views, come up with future scenarios, etc. that hurts our Country. They only spout of conjectures not wanting to lose a conversation doing all that at any costs disregarding US citizen lives! Nothin more, nothin less for their peace of egos!
Taking someones life is not easy to live with. I feel for the officers involved. Hope they get the help they need.
Let’s wait to hear the woman’s story. We no mo home, we just sleeping in car and he was scared of being awaken then trying to flee. HPD neva have to do that! This story conjured up and written like Klastri would! lol
Pocho,
I think her story is that she is going to sue the City and County on behalf of herself and her gentleman friend who was shot by HPD. My guess is she’ll end up with half a million, maybe a little less if her attorney screws up.
Wouldn’t surprise me in this liberal Democrat controlled welfare state. The three policemen should sue her, friend and families.
Yup, & the officers get what? Tarps?
Good!! Finally, the culprits get what they deserve cause if the driver had lived, the Prosecutor’s office would have botched the prosecution and these idiots would have gone free.. NICE WORK FROM HONOLULU’S FINEST!!!
save money all around from jail cell usage to court usage…..etc
HPD Officer to driver of stolen vehicle, “Go ahead punk, make my day!”
It sure seems likeeverytime a petty crook is shot and killed by the police its because the peep was going to run the cops over. Just seems a little strange. Per capita, I wonder what the police killings are in cities our size?
Here’s a novel idea, how about following the cops instructions. Don’t blame the cops, they only reacting to the perps actions. #GoodjobHPD
It is, suspect also has 6 felony convictions which makes him a career criminal. He is NOT a petty criminal.
Thank you HPD!!!
NanakuliBoss: “When will officers learn not to be on foot when ordering a driver in a stolen car to exit?…Box um in, use the PA system, then standby for compliance. How many officers stand in front of the car and bark commands? Very poorly trained.” nalogirl: “It sure seems like everytime a petty crook is shot and killed by the police its because the peep was going to run the cops over. Just seems a little strange.” Both NB and Nalogirl have a point worth considering. This has happened before. Don’t the police have videos mounted in their cars to record these cases? Why not make it SOP to do exactly what NB suggests? Our officers should not place themselves in a position where they’re in danger of being “dragged” or “pinned” or otherwise injured. If such practice had been in place, we might not have had this sad outcome.
Too much movies…
“ditto”
It’s shocking to see how many posters here condone murder for stealing a car. These people were sleeping, HPD could have blocked them in and arrested them. Oh.. wait, HPD had blocked in a drunk military guy on the Ala wai awhile back so he couldn’t escape but then they still shot the unarmed man to death because he wouldn’t follow their orders. Apparently, not following HPD orders is a capital offense in Hawaii. That’s what you get when Shopo owns the politicians and runs the department.
Feds need to investigate HPD, they’re out of control.
We now have a President who backs law enforcement. All these wimps that back the criminals are in for a big surprise.
Try googling “when can a cop shooot someone?” You just might learn something. #Thinkbeforeyousay
How do you know this was not suicide by cop? Suspect made his choice, like the drunk soldier… he made the choice. This suspect has 6 felony convictions, is not a petty criminal. Maybe he was tired of being a “catcher” in prison
Hawaii is demographically small. One day that “good-for-nothing” thief/ drug addict who gets killed by law enforcers is gonna be fondly related to one of you high-and-mighty posters. Kharma’s a beach, I’d say.
If so, I’d be the first post how it doesn’t surprise me.
if they were wrongly accused that’s one thing but if they did it they deserve the consequences.
Folks need to follow orders given by the police. Don’t blame the police for protecting their own and/or the public when these folks are trying to run away let alone nearly killing officers. Having said this, I’m sure the woman will play the victim. And yup, the media will cover the families who will say how nice and sweet they are. Need people to follow the law.
Now that is a great way to solve our prison overcrowding! Good job HPD.
HPD Pest Control
That’s a good one.
Have watched many hot pursuit TV coverages in LA and they all end peacefully. Perhaps if HPD use of body-camera was 100%, unnecessary deaths will not occur. There must be a safer way to apprehend a car thief. Police need not expose themselves in the direct path of the vehicle to lessen the need to shoot and kill a car thief.
Cojef, well said. Agree.
Open and closed case. Justified shooting. If someone is trying to pin you against a building with their car, I think anyone would shoot to stop them.
Gotta do what you’re trained to do…Good job HPD!
“My boy was a good boy…..he neva do nothing”.
Iwanaknow, your humor is misplaced. I’m sure you don’t intend to mock the parents, who just lost a son, or his siblings, relatives, and friends. I’m sure if you actually knew him and his family, you wouldn’t think it was so funny. What a person considers funny says a lot about him/her. I’m sure you wouldn’t be laughing if you actually saw his parents’ grief. Let’s have some empathy.
Let’s get to the beginning of this situation. What was the deceased, a multiple felon, doing in a stolen car in the first place? Then, when the officers tried to get him under control, why did he try to get away? If he hadn’t been doing something illegal in the first place would he have to be worried about HPD officers stopping him? NO!!!! Follow the law and you shouldn’t have to worry about anything except the law breakers. Deceased at fault. His actions came with dire consequences.
