Obama’s parting message: We’re going to be OK

ASSOCIATED PRESS

President Barack Obama waves at the conclusion of his final presidential news conference in the briefing room of the white House in Washington.

WASHINGTON >> “We’re going to be OK.”

In the final minutes of his final presidential news conference, Barack Obama insisted he’s not just tossing out reassuring platitudes about the nation’s future.

It’s what he really believes.

“This is not just a matter of no-drama Obama,” he said. “It is true that behind closed doors I curse more than I do publicly. And sometimes I get mad and frustrated like everybody else does. But at my core, I think we’re going to be OK.”

It is what he chose as the parting message for what is most likely his last extended remarks as president.

Processing the November election results in an intensely personal frame, Obama spoke at length about how his daughters, Sasha and Malia, felt about Donald Trump’s election.

“They don’t mope,” he said — a noteworthy comment to come from any parent of teenage girls.

He said they were disappointed, but also resilient.

“We’ve tried to teach them hope,” Obama said. “The only thing that is the end of the world is the end of the world.”

This, then, is not the end of the world.

“You get knocked down, you get up, you brush yourself off and you get back to work,” he said. “That tended to be their attitude.”

That said, the outgoing president allowed, neither of his daughters is interested in going into politics.

In that, he added with a grin, “I think their mother’s influence shows.”

He cast his daughters as emblematic of the rising generation, and of the promise of America’s future.

Yes, democracy is messy, he said, but there are more good people than bad and things will turn out just fine.

“We just have to fight for it. We have to work for it and we have to not take it for granted.”

Obama out.

You are correct, we are going to be ok because you will not be the president of the United States! We do not need to be afraid of Russia, we need to worry about you and the criminals that you pardon!!!

Let us brace ourselves for the flow of negativity from those that have never held public office, probably are not the ones to bring a platter of sushi to the family next door that lost a loved one, believes innately that the problems with their own lives is the fault of everyone else, and constantly (if they do hold a job) berate management as “idiots and overpaid” blaring that THEY could do better…yet never trying to be. SAD.

I think you are right rytsuru. We will probably get a lot of negativity and crying from the Dems that thought HiLIARy had to be our next president. I can take it though, I’ve put up with it for the last year.

Thank you Barry Hussein for the reassuring words, I’ll sleep well tonight. Well at least the 1%r’s will be okay. That group thrived under Obama’s 8 years. Which is a little puzzling to me. All my life I’ve been lectured that democrats stand up for the working man. But under Barry the working man’s wages have stagnated, sky-high health care premiums courtesy of Obamacare erode disposable income and unchecked immigration rewards illegal immigrants while hosing American workers. Yes, we’ll be okay, or at least some of us will be okay.

They’ve done that under every President since Reagan. They’ve all been supply-side economists – Republican and Democrat. I can’t believe than there’s people that really believe that things will get any better under the Trump administration.

In my mind, OK is not enough. IMO, our country needs to get much better sooner than later or we’ll become a second rate nation of has-beens. Unfortunately, our country is now a battleground for two dysfunctional competing political parties more concerned about politics than what’s best for the country.

We are going to be fine Barry now that you are on the way out. Trump is going to turn Washington on its ear. This is not a “dyed in the wool” republican. Boots, Allie, Klastri et al. Feeling warm and fuzzy. Psycho analysts are going to be in big demand when the left starts becoming unhinged. Luvinit.

“We’re going to be OK.” for once I can agree with soon to be ex President Obama, wait, maybe not, because I will be ecstatic, jubilant, joyous and optimistic, Friday, just by you stepping down Mr President.
