Firefighters responded to a brush fire at Koko Head District Park.

Honolulu firefighters and police were responding to a small brush fire at Koko Head District Park that closed the popular hiking trail and rifle range this afternoon.

Honolulu Fire Capt. James Todd said the seven-acre fire started about noon on the east side of Koko Crater Trail, between the trail and rifle range.

Firefighters were using a helicopter to drop water on the flames.

Police said firefighters were evacuating hikers off the trail and officers will close the trail until the fire is out.

A Koko Head Shooting Complex employee said police also closed the range and employees were on standby to reopen if allowed.

They should keep the range closed. Last time I hiked that trail I was shot at from there. Four bullets pinged off the rocks about 20 feet to my left over the course of about thirty seconds. Report it to the cops? Who do you think frequents it the most. Disgusting.
