Oahu Auctions has launched an online “flash auction” to clear contents of Magnolia Café & Bakery at the Ala Moana Center in Honolulu. The prominent New York City eatery will serve its patrons for the last time today, after being open just a little over a year.

Magnolia Café & Bakery products are baked on-site daily. Its cupcakes and banana pudding were in high demand all week as regular customers learned of the café’s closure. Customers were often told to come back the following day for popular items that sold out earlier in the day.

“Everything that can be removed safely and quickly without causing damage to the building is available,” says David Brandt of Oahu Auctions. “All the equipment was purchased just a year ago so everything still looks shiny and new. Most of the large equipment is still under warranty.”

The restaurant’s sizeable kitchen is filled with multiple ranges, ovens, undercounter refrigerators, freezers, ice machines, sheet pan racks, mobile cabinets, sinks and prep stations, which are all up for auction. An extensive assortment of foodservice equipment including deli cases, mixers, food slicers, bakeware, glassware and dishware will be up for grabs. All contents of the kiosk, wall art, fixtures and props will be among the odds and ends offered.

“We’re calling this a flash auction because this has to move along quickly. We typically have a couple of weeks just to organize an auction of this size. This time we have just a few days from start to finish,” commented Alicia Brandt of Oahu Auctions.

The auction is open to the public. An on-site preview of the auction items is scheduled for Sunday, December 18 from 10am to 6pm. The auction will end the same day, with the first auction item ending at 6pm. All other details are at oahuauctions.com.

There will be more. Just look at how much less foot traffic there is in the other new tenants, Nitrogenie, Shirokiya, Tesla Motors. The novelty has worn thin.

    What happened here??

Cater to unforeseen clienteles and ignore the locals is never a good business practice in the Nei! Locals are checking out and enjoying the new mall at Kapolei, more to their taste, than the clone of Rodeo Drive – Ala Moana Center!

    I’ll take the kitchen sink.

When I went to Magnolia Restaurant last month with two friends at about 2pm there was hardly anyone in the restaurant. We were told the wait would
be 20 minutes. As we were waiting to be seated I saw other groups of people come in and told there was a wait time and left.
