1 dead in head-on collision in Waiahole

At around 8:35 p.m., the man was traveling northbound on Kamehameha Highway near Waiahole Valley Homestead Road when he lost control of his vehicle and traveled into the southbound lane and collided with another car, police said.

A 32-year-old Hauula man is dead after a head-on collision in Waiahole Saturday night, according to the Honolulu Police Department.

At around 8:35 p.m., the man was traveling northbound on Kamehameha Highway near Waiahole Valley Homestead Road when he lost control of his vehicle and traveled into the southbound lane and collided with another car, police said.

The driver of the car, a 39-year-old woman, was taken to the hospital in good condition.

Her two passengers, an adult male and female, were taken to the hospital in serious condition.

The Hauula man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Drugs appear to be a contributing factor, police said, but it’s unknown if speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.

This is Oahu’s 46th traffic fatality this year compared to 43 at the same time last year.
