The Honolulu Police Department was conducting a sobriety check point at N. King and Maunakea Streets on Saturday evening from 5:15 pm to 8:15 pm. The check point was one of three set up in the area and was a response for more police presence after the fatal shooting that occurred early Saturday morning. “We just want everyone to know that we’re here,” said and Sgt. Mike Miranda.

of catching halalu, or juvenile akule. Some of the catch would be used as bait

More than 30 community leaders were expected to participate in the Salvation Army's CEO Sleepout at the Capitol, an effort to educate about the plight of the homeless. Wayne Salangsang of Waikiki took his stand-up paddleboard almost to the wall Monday on a wave at Kuhio Beach. When not taking care of his grandchildren, including picking them up from school, he is in the water, he said, routinely going out from Kuhio Beach to Diamond Head or Ala Moana. An avid surfer since 1969, he said this is his "retired life" and that it's a "great life."
