Glenwood man charged with robbing another man at Hilo beach park

Kawa Salas, of Glenwood, was arrested Thursday after police found him trying to hide in nearby bushes.

A 28-year-old man has been charged with robbing a 59-year-old man at a beach park in Hilo, police said.

Kawa Salas, of Glenwood, was arrested Thursday after police found him trying to hide in nearby bushes.

Police said Salas and two other men approached a Mountain View man at Kuhio Beach on Thursday morning and one of the men held the victim down.

The other two suspects took the victim’s ukulele, cellphone and wallet. All three fled on bicycles.

Police located Salas a short time later. He was charged Friday night with second-degree robbery, and his bail was set at $5,000.

Police were still looking for the two other men. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call police at 935-3311 or call Detective Robert Almeida at 961-2386.
