Not surprising knowing the way so many R-e*t*A+r~D=s drive through that tunnel rain or shine. Seems they find it exciting to defy the lights on signs upon entering the tunnels as well.

There seem to be a higher rate of accidents in the tunnel. Why? Some drivers don’t turn on their lights. Many speed up. But overall, the feeling one gets driving through the tunnel is hypnotic…..maybe DOT needs to look at breaking up, visually, the appearance of the sides of the tunnel. There is something going here that I don’t think highway engineers understand, but maybe some other disciplines would have some ideas.

Consensus seems to think the tunnel walls have hypnotic effect on certain drivers. Mental idiots? Never liked tunnels and it has been my policy to get through as quick as possible. No time for idle thoughts, got out!
