Capture of fugitive, multiple accidents back up traffic on H-1 freeway

GOAKAMAI.ORG Traffic backed up during the afternoon commute after at least two accidents involving multiple vehicles.

Police arrested a man this afternoon wanted for $200,000 in warrants after a pursuit ended in a crash that touched off multiple collisions on the H-1 freeway in Aiea and backed up Ewa-bound traffic into town.

The suspect, Bryson Bagio, 24, was also arrested in June for leading police on a chase across Oahu.

Michelle Yu, Honolulu police spokeswoman, said police spotted Bagio in Kalihi at about 4:15 p.m. Officers arrested Bagio after a crash on the freeway near the Aiea Heights overpass in the Ewa-bound lanes of the H-1 freeway about 4:20 p.m.

Witnesses reported multiple collisions during the incident, Yu said.

Police said at about 5 p.m. that no lanes were closed in the area, however the incident caused a massive traffic jam as motorists slowed down near the scene and tow trucks cleared the vehicles involved off the freeway.

Traffic cameras showed cars backed up from the Aiea Heights overpass to the Ward Avenue overpass.

On June 8, Bryson allegedly stole a truck near Turtle Bay Resort and led police on a chase from the North Shore to Aiea to Kaneohe and to Kailua. The chase ended when the stolen truck stalled.

While in Kaneohe, Bagio struck a car driven by an elderly woman, but she was not injured, police said.

He was charged with unauthorized control of a vehicle and was wanted for two $100,000 warrants in connection with the June incident.

    High speed chase by HPD…

    • Pocho says:

HPD should have shot Bagio to death. Just pay the impending law suit getting rid of this A H.

He’s not in jail and look at all the trouble and additional expense he’s caused. From the looks of it, anytime he’s not in jail he’ll be causing problems. The judges need to impose real sentences and keep the trouble makers off our streets.

Bookem and releasem Danno! HPD does a great job catching perps and the courts let them loose upon society again and again and again….insanity continues…..

      • saveparadise says:

I agree with the Pocho. Really people? When are we going to get serious with the way punishment is dealt to repeat offenders? It has come to the point where only victims are held accountable. Judges and criminals continue their routine as usual.

I am surprised they didn’t add in the article what a great guy and father figure he is to his friends and family. That seems to be the trend in these stories!

    • South76 says:

He is definitely one of the idiots in this state, you need to include those who are involved in the judicial system as well as the clown legislatures who make the laws that allows this guy to get off onto the streets, then you also include the Gruber subjects who keep electing these idiots back into the circus tent on Beretania Street.

  8. Hitaxpayer says:

Why is this guy on the street? For all of the grief he caused people trying to get home from work he should be locked up forever

The problem is the the ‘K-Team” Kealoha and Kaneshiro are in over their heads.

  10. Hawaii5OhOh says:

So is HPD going to shut lanes down for 5 hours again? How come when things happen on the east side, they shut it down like from 30 minutes 90 minutes?

  11. Tanuki says:

The guy is a known flight risk and he is out loose. What are the prosecutor and judge thinking, or not?

    • South76 says:

Here is the problem with our justice system in HI. Grubber electorates keep electing the same clowns back into the circus tent on Beretania street. These clowns make laws and approve judges who sit at those court houses…this combination make a perfect example when we have one party government….just look to what is going in China……corruption to the max.

  12. chibikodog2011 says:

Mayoral candidates & City Council members need to sit in this traffic every a.m. & p.m. until the election.

  13. HAJAA1 says:

I hope one day one of these liberal “feel sorry” judges will find themselves on the bad end of one of these crimes. Karma. We’ll see just how compassionate they feel when one of their loved ones are killed by one of these losers. They subject the general public to this cr*p all the time…..probably because it’s “NIMBY”. Well…one day.

Jam everyone up in traffic to chase down a petty car thief at rush hour on the freeway? Who’s the genius running that undercover operation? HPD knew who they were dealing with and what he would do to get away. Seems to me they might have put the public in harms way in order to chase down a car thief in traffic. They either lack any common sense or just don’t care how their actions might affect the general public. Probably a bit of both.

They need to make an example of this moron. He needs to do some real time for having no regard for the law or people of Oahu.

  19. McCully says:

The whole court system should be completely overhauled and judges should be evaluated yearly not every ten years. too many softies on the bench.

  20. Margaret8 says:

Why chase? This is an island! Chopper & nail belts work most places. Police need training

  21. keaukaha says:

Send the bradah to the big island where our men and women in blue can take care of him Hilo and Puna style. Family only need to provide the urn.
