Honolulu police are investigating traffic crashes that caused the deaths Friday of a Waimanalo woman in Kailua and a motorcyclist in Moiliili.
A motorcycle rider in his late 60s or early 70s died Friday after a truck-motorcycle crash on South King Street near Kahoaloha Lane, police said.
The crash occurred about 3:50 p.m., according to Emergency Medical Services, and paramedics transported the motorcyclist in critical condition to a hospital. Police said he later died.
The eastbound lanes of King Street from University Avenue to Kahoaloha Lane were closed at about 4:17 p.m. and reopened by 7:48 p.m.
About 11:50 a.m. Friday on Kalanianaole Highway near Kapaa Quarry Road, a 68-year-old Waimanalo woman was ejected from her van after it overturned, police said.
The woman was driving the van toward Kailua on Kalanianaole Highway when it veered from the left lane across the right lane and struck a guardrail, where it overturned, ejecting her, Honolulu police said.
The woman was taken in extremely critical condition to Castle Medical Center, where she later died.
Police said speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the incident.
The death of the woman, who was not wearing a seat belt, was the 33rd fatality this year on Oahu, and the death of the motorcyclist was the 34th fatality. At this time last year, there were
31 traffic fatalities.
