Girl seriously injured when struck by SUV in Wahiawa crosswalk
A 17-year-old girl was in serious condition this evening after being struck in a crosswalk by a sport utility vehicle in Wahiawa, according to city Emergency Medical Services
The incident took place at about 7:33 p.m. on California Avenue.
The girl was taken to a hospital in serious condition, EMS said.

Soooo, was the driver of the SUV held and the vehicle seized? We all know that the SUV driver was let go like they always are, and almost certainly allowed to drive the SUV away. Our cracked system of justice just sentenced a homeless man who broke the spear of Kamehaha’s statue to five years and they are going to let a driver of a lethal SUV to run over a helpless pedestrian in a crosswalk drive away in the SUV with a ticket… Sick Sick Sick
So the headline leads the audience to automatically assume that the driver is totally at fault. The key word being crosswalk. No other details are provided. No witness statements. How do we know that the SUV wasn’t making a left turn and the don’t walk sign was lit, when the person darted into the crosswalk because the light was green? Maybe the driver was making a right turn on green, with the don’t walk sign lit, and the person darted into the crosswalk from the driver’s blindside. The marked crosswalk is a designated place to cross the street. It is not a magical force field protected path that you can randomly enter anytime without caution.
Maybe the SUV driver has a history of tickets for speeding reckless driving. Driver was preoccupied with their more important cell phone. Answering texts, watching a YouTube video far more important then paying attention to the road. Driver was speeding, in a hurry, looked one way, hit the gas to go the other way before checking. Driver was distracted by unrestrained children in the car or pets. Driver was looking at their radio while changing the station. Driver spilled a drink, looked down while still driving. Driver was smoking, looked away to light it. Driver was sleepy, momentarily had a waking nap. Driver just didn’t care, they own the road.
That’s true localguy. My point was we don’t really know what happened. We have no details, but the SA will put up a headline that implies the driver was totally at fault.
I didn’t get your impression the driver was at fault by the article title. Just a quick down and dirty what happened.
Just have to wait until the investigation is over. Luckily the girl will recover.
This article reads like how people/Obama/Democrats puts the onus on fire arms instead of the person behind the weapon/vehicle’s steering wheel.
Before opening the link, I had a feeling it was California Avenue. Speeding up and down that street (which resembles a highway) is too common place. Hopefully the local Community will step up safety awareness. Thoughts with teen, Family and Friends.
Speeding, combined with an abundance of unlit crosswalks make California Ave a death trap for pedestrians.
Have to feel for the young girl. Hope she recovers quickly.
This should also be a reminder for all pedestrians, yes you have the right of way when crossing the street, however, you don’t want to be DEAD right. When crossing a busy street, use a crosswalk with a traffic signal. Yes it will take longer but it’s shorter than a stay in the hospital or morgue.
If you can’t see my eyes then I can’t see you. Maybe we should change the laws and give the driver the right of way. Works in Japan, Brazil, Taiwan, Thailand, Philippines, and other countries. Some don’t even have crosswalks so the walker is more cautious. Seems to work.
