The public has until Monday to cast a vote for a favorite architectural project for the American Institute of Architects Honolulu chapter’s 10th annual People’s Choice Award.
AIA Honolulu is showcasing 20 commercial projects and 13 residential projects in the contest, which is part of the organization’s annual 58-year-old design awards program.
Nominees include a commercial space at 3470 Waialae Ave. in Kaimuki that offers a mix of shapes and building materials, the vintage-looking Haleiwa Store Lots project, the pedestrian-friendly spaces at the Salt Kakaako project, the modernistic Walgreens flagship store near Ala Moana, and the sugar mill-inspired Aiea Public Library building.
Residences up for consideration include three luxury homes in Kailua, a makeover of a Vladimir Ossipoff- designed home in Makiki and two of the new residential towers in Honolulu.
Votes can be submitted online. The winner will be announced Sept. 17 during the AIA Honolulu Design Awards Gala at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Daniel K. Inouye Regional Center on Ford Island.
