I have a combined 10 years as a state representative and senator; 50 years practicing law, including experience as a JAG officer; 34 years in the military, including an Air Force commendation for authoring Hawaii’s Code of Military Justice. I have also been a successful international businessman and entrepreneur.

Do you support the use of United States combat troops in Syria to defeat ISIS, or to end the rule of President Bashar al-Assad?

I do not support having our troops on the ground in Syria. I am in support of providing air & tactical support for U.N. troops. As U.S. senator, I intend to focus intensely on achieving Middle East peace, working with our allies there such as Israel.

Do you support the continued use of U.S. troops in Iraq, or should those troops be withdrawn?

While I do believe that the U.S. should have intervened in Kuwait, it is my belief that we should have never gone into Iraq,. We should should withdraw our troops immediately. Our Middle East allies who have a vested interest in the area should carry the load on the ground.

Do you support the continued use of U.S. troops in Afghanistan, or should those troops be withdrawn?

It is my belief that we should have never gone into Afghanistan, and we should get our troops out. Our Middle East allies who have a vested interest in the area should carry the load on the ground.

Should the United States recognize a Native Hawaiian government through an administrative rule or an act of Congress?

Sovereignty, or any form of Native Hawaiian governance, should be the subject matter of a plebiscite in which only citizens of the Hawaiian Kingdom — which still exists today — are allowed to vote. It should not be based on any racial requirement or blood quantum requirement.

What changes should be made to the federal Affordable Care Act?

It should be eliminated. Hawaii had excellent care for all citizens prior to the Affordable Care Act. Every state should adopt the Hawaiian system regarding medical care as it existed in 2012.

Should the federal government legalize marijuana?

Yes, it should be legalized. It should meet federal standards, subject to quality control, and be regulated and taxed, similarly to alcohol.
