Pedestrian, 19, seriously injured in Moiliili
Paramedics treated a woman, believed to be 19 years old, after she was struck by a car in Moiliili this morning.
Emergency Medical Services said the pedestrian accident happened at 8:43 a.m. on Isenberg Street near South Beretania Street.
She was taken by ambulance to a hospital in serious condition.

When will pedestrians learn if you do battle with a moving vehicle you will lose every time. We have to learn from the animals, when a vehicle is coming at you don’t expect the vehicle to stop, get out of the way. Yes I know the vehicle is supposed to stop, but if they don’t see you they won’t. After all It’s a lot easier for a pedestrian to see a car than it is for a driver to see a pedestrian. Both parties (pedestrians and drivers) must do their part to make our roads safer. All the dumb money grabbing laws will not make things better as can be seen by the statistics. Seems like more pedestrians are getting hit an end they passes all these new laws.
The bottom line, is your first sentence. You really don’t have to go any further. Sure motorists are supposed to follow the law (as are pedestrians), but at the end of the day, if you are a pedestrian, you are going to find yourself on the sore end of the stick.
Drivers are always in a hurry to beat other cars and not paying attention to pedestrians in crosswalks. It is sad that it is getting to be more the responsibility of the pedestrians to be safe even though pedestrians have the right of way. Pedestrians now have to be more alert and not put their life in someone else’s hands. The best way for pedestrians to be safe is to always be aware of everything around you. You want to be able to avoid being hit even if the driver tried to hit you.
When a pedestrian gets hit by a vehicle I’d it was a 100% he/she was not paying attention to vehicular traffic…you still need to look…the law maybe on your side but you will lose to a car …

Yup, I have seen pedestrians stepping onto cross walk without looking at on-coming traffic. Yes the law is on pedestrian side but when after the car hit you and you died law doesn’t matter anymore …
The sad truth is, most pedestrians I see, don’t ever look. Before stepping into a crosswalk, or while crossing the street. Either they are too busy talking on their phones, or sometimes it is almost like they are afraid to make eye contact.

I see this all the time. Pedestrians wearing black clothing at night. Pedestrians walking into cross walks with signal hands flashing. Pedestrians on the sidewalk at an intersection not looking before stepping into the street. Pedestrians looking at their cell phones when stepping into and walking in a cross walk. Yes its a two way partnership.
