A knife is a pretty straightforward thing. As in, the blade is straight and it cuts straight. Until it isn’t and it doesn’t.
Which brings us to the Wavy Knife, which has a blade that looks like a corrugated tin roof, in orange. Its purpose is to make even, wavy cuts in fruits and vegetables.
Why? Because it’s decorative. Because maybe your kids will eat more veggies if they have ridges. Because — crinkle-cut fries!
Manufacturer: Crisp
Cost and availability: About $12 from several online sources. Compleat Kitchen in Kahala Mall has a similar Zyliss version for $11.50.
Extras: Comes with a slip-on blade cover, which is handy for storage or if you need to carry it around.
Does it work? Yes. It takes a little more pressure than a regular knife, but the blade is sharp and sturdy. Still, I imagine you’d wear yourself out if you used it to crinkle-cut several pounds of potatoes.
Worth it? To me, no. I am perfectly happy with straight cuts. But people I’ve shown it to think it’s cool, and one of them was happy to take the sample knife home to entertain her daughter.
