Hawaii island police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred this afternoon on Highway 11 in the Volcano district.

The incident was reported shortly after 5 p.m. and involved an apparent head-on collision between a Ford F-150 truck and a compact sedan.

A Hawaii County Fire Department report did not specify who was killed but did confirm that the female driver of the sedan was extricated from the vehicle and was given CPR at the scene. An infant who was in a car seat in the vehicle was transported to an area hospital in undisclosed condition.

The driver of the truck was not injured.
