Disney releases first look at ‘Moana’ in teaser trailer
“Do you know who Maui is?” the demigod asks in the opening of the teaser trailer of “Moana,” which was released today.
After boasting of his many accomplishments, he lets out a “chee hoo” in an attempt to impress Moana, voiced by Auli’i Cravalho of Mililani.
Disney today gave moviegoers a first look at the animated feature film set to hit theaters on Nov. 23.
According to Disney, the story takes place 3,000 years ago when sailors voyaged across the Pacific, discovering the many islands of Oceania. But then, for a millennium, the voyages stopped – and no one knows why.
Adventurous teenager Moana is on a journey across the ocean when she meets the demigod Maui, voiced by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. He helps her become a master wayfinder as their voyage leads them to encounter “enormous monsters and impossible odds,” Disney said.
“Along the way, Moana fulfills the ancient quest of her ancestors and discovers the one thing she’s always sought: her own identity,” Disney said.

He announced at the same time that he was excited to “share the spectacular visuals behind the movie.”
Johnson lived in Hawaii off and on as a boy and attended McKinley High School as a freshman.
