Public school teachers with creative projects to excite and educate their students are urged to apply for Good Idea Grants of up to $3,000.
“Without these grants, teachers have to personally pay for the materials to bring these Good Ideas to life or just not do them,” said Ken Hiraki, president of the Hawaii Public Schools Foundation.
The application deadline is Monday for projects in the next school year. The foundation, run by volunteers, raises money to support public education and has provided $4.5 million in grants since its founding in 1986.
Previous projects supported by Good Ideas include:
>> A beekeeping program at Mililani Middle School that provides education about the importance of honeybees in agriculture and natural ecosystems.
>> A “Maker Space” area where students can build prototypes of their ideas at Pearl Harbor Elementary.
