The Salvation Army’s 2016 Partners in Community Service Awards gala raised nearly $300,000 for its Pathway of Hope initiative, which aims to help people break away from intergenerational poverty, drug addiction and homelessness with aid tied to housing, jobs and community support.
The honorees at the event, held last month at the Salvation Army’s family treatment services facility in Honolulu, included Group 70 International, the Hawaii Community Foundation and Murray Bawden, who serves on the Salvation Army’s Honolulu advisory board and as an executive committee vice chairman.
“Each of our honorees fully embraces the spirit of the award by giving back to our island communities in significant, impactful ways,” Maj. John Chamness, Salvation Army divisional leader (Hawaiian &Pacific Islands), said in a news release. “We wouldn’t be able to reach the 121,000 people in need each year without the support of companies and individuals like our honorees.
“By successfully offering a targeted set of services, rooted in strengths-based case management, we will help more families and individuals truly break the cycle of crisis and achieve stability.”
