Woman charged with beating up man, 67, stealing cane
A 34-year-old Honolulu woman is in jail awaiting trial after she was charged with beating up a 67-year-old man and stealing his cane at a downtown park.
Crina Holt of downtown Honolulu was charged with third-degree assault, a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail. Her bail is $1,000 and she is scheduled to appear in court in May.
The incident happened about 1:30 p.m. April 21 at Kamalii Park behind the fire station at Fort Street Mall and South Beretania Street.
The victim told police he was walking home when he stopped at Kamalii Park where a woman carrying an umbrella and a man approached him. The woman demanded his wallet and jewelry and poked him in the face with the umbrella, injuring his eye. When the victim refused to give up his belongings, the woman punched him in his face several times until he fell against a wall. The two suspects proceeded to kick the man in his stomach and head while he was against the wall.
The victim held onto his valuables, but lost his cane. He told police he was able to run away and last saw Holt swinging his cane at him as he ran off.
He sustained cuts, scrapes, and swelling in the attack.

The next morning, the victim was walking home after getting a yogurt at Safeway when he spotted the woman sitting in the same park. He called police and officers arrested her at the scene for investigation without incident.

Bullies, thieves are rolled into one in this case! Shame on you! Three vs one and an elderly at that too!!
googled her name and found she’s a former WCCC inmate. I not saying she’s the one who did the crime but of her criminal past. If it is she, I presume the Drugs made her do it.
We often learn more in the comments section from bloggers than from the sketchy, lazy SA stories.
Advertising income is falling off. The newspapers lack money sources to pay their reporters for more detailed stories.
I understand what you are saying, but its not just Drugs, its poor choices.
Agree.
Its many things, upbringing inherited genes, environment and evil will.
we grew up with a real simple philosophy……..do what you like but when in doubt no shame da name
Drugs made me do it! What BS!
So sad and CRAZY! and at 1 in the afternoon?
Assault III?
Shouldn’t it be Robbery/Physical force or at least Assault II for hitting him in the head and poking his eye with the umbrella, which caused injury? What is the Prosecutor’s office doing? This can’t just be a misdemeanor.
Good to see investigative techniques used to get to the bottom of what the victim was doing at Safeway the day after the crime.
Yup, this appears to be robbery, lazy patrol officers, lazy detectives, lazy prosecutors.
is it the “they dont pay me enuff syndrome?”
Agreed. They could have gone with Robbery 2nd. (and the Prosecutors could bargain it down later but the felony arrest would still be on the record)
I believe due to his age charges could and should be enhanced. The real cost we should consider is the safety of the public from dirt like this woman not the amount to incarcerate. Punish and put away trash like this…
I was thinking the same thing too. If it were a family member it would be elderly abuse. It should be in this case too.
I think prosecutors went with ASS. III , there is a law regarding ASS. on elderly, over 60. But agree with you, this should be robbery. They took his cane using force. I am 60 and this would piss me off ! Looks like I gotta call Will ESPERO.
Terroristic threatening!
Only up to a year in jail for basically physically assaulting a senior citizen? That’s outrageous. physical assault is just as bad as a heinous crime such as sexual assault. They both result in psychological and physical scarring. Our laws need to change to better protect our most vulnerable citizens.
Defendant was grossly UNDERCHARGED and bail should be much higher.
15 years.. hard labor
Too bad the old man didn’t carry pepper spray…..that would have give the attackers something to remember him by……
Citizens need to ban together and go vigilante on these types of people. I’m sure the guy is in that park every day. I was walking pas this same park just yesterday and witnessed a young asian kid probably in middle school deliberately change his course to avoid these types sitting on the ground in a group blocking the walkway. They looked like the trouble-maker type and I thought, good thing he noticed them there. Maybe nothing would happen but who knows? AS they say = be aware of your surroundings!!! But then again I would welcome punks like that trying to make trouble to me – I could get a lot of governmental/cop frustrations out in just a few minutes work!!
