Lucky Peach, Lopez-Alt, Israeli cooking top Beard media awards
The nonprofit James Beard Foundation presented dozens of awards for culinary-related books, broadcasts and journalism Tuesday night.
Among the top winners were Book of the Year, “Zahav: A World of Israeli Cooking,” by Michael Solomonov and Steven Cook, and “The Food Lab: Better Home Cooking Through Science,” by J. Kenji Lopez-Alt, who also is a popular presence on the internet and social media platforms.
The Associated Press won a Food Reporting award for its expose “Seafood from Slaves,” an investigation that helped free enslaved workers, while Lucky Peach won in the Food Blog category and its printed magazine was named 2016 JBF Publication of the Year. The players behind Lucky Peach include noted chef David Chang, of the famed Momofuku restaurant empire.

The Beard Foundation’s chef and restaurant awards will be presented May 2.
