Ward theater to screen commemorative showing of ‘Purple Rain’

Consolidated Theaters will mark the death of musician Prince with a special screening Monday of his Oscar-winning film “Purple Rain.”
The musical drama will screen at 7:35 p.m. at Consolidated Theaters Ward Stadium. Tickets go on sale today.
Prince died Thursday at the age of 57.
The 1984 film starred Prince, in his movie debut, and Apollonia Kotero and Morris Day. It’s considered a cult classic and a film that helped launch Prince’s musical career. He not only acts in the film, but sings and performs as well.
It was written and directed by Albert Magnoli.
“Purple Rain” earned Prince an Academy Award for Best Music, Original Song Score.
The film follows The Kid, played by Prince, an angry Minneapolis musician on the rise with his band, the Revolution, after escaping a tumultuous home life through music. The Kid navigates the club scene and a rocky relationship with a captivating singer, Apollonia, played by Kotero. But another musician, Morris, played by Morris Day, looks to steal The Kid’s spotlight — and his girl.

I must have seen that movie about 8 times at the old Kapiolani Theater.
the music is outstanding and was played loud.
