Lockdown at four Ewa Beach schools lifted
The state Department of Education placed four Ewa Beach area schools in lockdown for more than 30 minutes this morning after reports surfaced about a man nearby with a firearm.
Police took the man into custody and transported him to a hospital for a mental evaluation.
The lockdown was put in place 9:40 a.m. at James Campbell High, Ilima Intermediate, Kaimiloa and Pohakea elementary schools while police patrolled the area and used its helicopter to search for the suspect.
The lockdown was lifted around 10:15 a.m., said a DOE spokesman. The suspect was located at 10:30 a.m., according to the Honolulu Police Department.
