Boyfriend gets 10 years in fatal August H-1 crash
A man who killed his 18-year-old girlfriend in a one-vehicle crash on the H-1 freeway last summer was sentenced in state court this morning to 10 years in prison.
Police say Devon Shane Keser was drunk and speeding when he crashed his Jeep on the H-1 Freeway on Aug. 12.
Keser, 20, pleaded no contest to negligent homicide in January for causing the death of Kortney Biton-Schubert and to other charges for causing injuries to two other passengers.

hope he learned his lesson… sad at this young ladies expense.
The sentence is just. In essence, he murdered his GF. Apparently he did not learn his lesson and displayed “‘tude” in court.
That’s OK, he will have a whole new attitude when he starts his time. Nice looking young boy….. will have lots of playmates who like boys.
yikes!
What kind of tude? The article doesn’t say anything about his turde?
strange, first timers usually receive 18 months in with 5 years parole. even in cases involving multiple fatalities.
Don’t you remember Bucky Dent at Sandy Beach? That wasn’t a short sentence either.
You’re thinking of Bucky Lake who was sentenced to 10 years in prison for killing five people in a head-on collision.
Bucky Dent LOL
I’ll never forget that Bucky Lake incident. That poor tourist family suffered greatly because of his poor choices. As I recall, it was out around Sandy Beach, towards the Makapu’u Lookout. Lake was home on leave from the Air Force. This had to have happened around the early to mid ’90s (?). Did he really serve the whole 10 year sentence?
That was a terrible, terrible day. The pretty young lady who died in that crash….found out later she had worked for a short time at my eatery. So tragic and needless. This accident happened way before vehicles had mandatory airbags and other safety things. Had this accident happened today and assuming everyone would be wearing a seatbelt– the outcome might have been very different.
Bucky Lake incident happened in 1988.
baseball player?
Yankees.
Bucky Dent: Beat the Bosox with his ninth inning homer over the Green Monster in the ’78 playoff game.
Yep, remember it very well like it was yesterday. I was bodysurfing at Makapu’u that day. What a mess that was.
we finally have a good judge here..all other judges should be punished for giving too lenient sentences..especially when it comes to DUI
This is the same judge who sentenced
This is the same judge who sentenced charter school thief Jeffrey Piontek to four years probation after stealing more than $136,000 in school money for “happy hour” at a Las Vegas strip club ,$16,971 to fix up his apartment etc.
Adding insult to injury Piontek gets to pay restitution in the grand sum of $200 per month . Judge Kim should have been just as harsh in that case too.
Yet another fatal drunk driving tragedy. So what’s new?
Hawaii’s own affluenza kid.
People who kill with fists and weapons spend less time in prison. Depending on exactly how reckless he was, he should spend at least a year behind bars. Then I’m guessing he’ll have the 10 years cut in half or so.
Would have been justice if he died instead of his girlfriend. At least it wasn’t one of those one year sentences that seem to be handed down so often in negligent homicide cases.
Unfortunately, it seems that too often, the drunk driver survives and innocent people die. Unreal how that happens.
Innocent people? This was the case where thy were ALL drinking vodka as they went to a party event in Waikiki. You get in a car to go to a party with a driver whose been drinking and you pass the bottle around, blast the radio and basically act like an idiot, brah you not innocent, you just stupid. I tell people you get in a car with a driver who is under the influence then do get mad if you get hurt. No one forced you to get in. To me all those guys in the car should do 10 years. It was one big rolling party and they got lucky no one else got hit.
Agree, he was the driver, all of them made the decision. What we need is a law that punishes everyone who knowingly participated in the accident. The GF was not a victim, she was the result of her bad decision.
Mori has justice on his mind
mori speaks the harsh truth
Drinking, driving, speeding, no one wearing seat belts = tragedy for sure.
Forgot to add that he is under 21, not yet legal age to drink.
Put the perp away. Oh and throw away the keys.
Swift justice, took less than one year, amazing….the wheels of justice turned quickly.
So the way I figure it, when 10 years sentences being handed out per death, he’s gets to kill 3 -4 more people in his lifetime. Just justice looking out for the innocent…every 10 years.
Believe it or not, there are worse people out there. Not to say he doesn’t deserve 10 years, but if every drunk driver got 10 years, there’d be no room in prison for the rapists, murderers, child molesters, etc.
