Ward movie complex to offer beer, wine on expanded menu
Ward Theatres launches a new program Friday that features a wing serving craft beers and wines and expands its menu.
Consolidated Theatre’s Premiere program will open in two phases.
Part one of the program, which begins Friday, includes reserved seating and access to a dedicated 21-and-over wing offering drinks from a bar. The theater’s concession will include new specialty dishes such as a banh mi-style hot dog, okonomiyaki fries, hurricane popcorn and lilikoi fried chicken bowl.
Consolidated has not announced dates for the launch of the rest of the new program.

I rarely go way out there to the movies. I can’t wait for the new theatre in Kapolei. I believe they are having the same thing and it’s brand new.
great..now I will have to battle local drunks at the movie theater. Hideous thought. Think I will stay in my cozy dorm room.
lol… you still dorming at UH? Does that make you a 10 year student?
More like perpetual undergraduate.
more like pathological liar
They just go to places like where you work. Don’t worry.
Yea because no one is drunk at UH. Real safe place there.
Allie works at a bar in Waikiki. She/he is surrounded by drunks.
Popcorn with wine sounds great. Not really. I don’t think Ill go and this takes away from Ward as we know it.
Hawaii is one of the last states to have a theater like this. Most places on the mainland have sushi bars and several restaurant-style appetizers in addition to the popcorn.
As far as I know it’s not a bunch of drunks going to this type of theatres. They still just go to bars. It’s people who maybe like to enjoy a date night.
If it costs $7 for a soda, how much will it cost for a beer? $15? Hopefully the prices will keep us from having to deal with obnoxious drunks in the theater. It can be bad enough dealing with rude people talking loudly, being on their phones, kicking the back of your chair etc.
$20 for a beer no doubt. $15 for two pieces of crummy sushi.
$3.50 for an apple!!
Since when did you ever seen an apple sold at a theatre? You want something healthy like a apple to sneak it in your purse.
consolidated started selling fruits and salads a few years ago.
Probably not true but don’t go is your answer. I have been to a place like this before in Pasadena, California. It’s in an adult section only and you reserve your seat. That is worth the extra for a nice time out, unless you are a cheap date.
Paying exorbitant amounts for liquor certainly can make one become obnoxious. Glad I’m past the stage where I need frquent such places.
Good grief, are they serious? Introduce alcohol into the mix and there WILL be trouble, Guaranteed. I don’t know if i care to chance bringing my grandchildren there. Sheesh, why can’t these money-hungry zealots just stick with movies, popcorn, and soda pop?
Simmer down, it will be in a separate adult section. It’s nice if you want to have date night without kids around. Low class people who get drunk don’t go to this type of theatre.
Going to the movie theater was a passion of mine for many years. However, I finally learned, after so many increases in ticket prices and high prices for refreshments, that it is much better to get dvds and watch the movies at home on a big screen tv. With a dvd you can see a movie at anytime of the day/night, pause, put on subtitles, and even watch part of the movie one day and continue at a later time. Cost for the entire family & friends – $1.50 + tax if renting at Redbox or JetFlix (1 day) or even better $1 no tax and 7 days at your local library. Yes, they are not the latest movies – a month or two later but then why do I need to see it at first release?
That’s what works for us. You can stop the movie and go to the bathroom too. LOL
We rarely go to the movies unless maybe a 3D movie or something that needs really big sound. Hey, I just sneak in healthy snacks most of the time:)
agree
Alcohol and more food options at movie theaters is great. If it was a bad idea it wouldn’t have made its way to Hawaii.
There are still many other theaters that don’t serve alcohol.
How about deep fried hxjclnsjxk ?
So, Hawaii has finally gotten itself a Cinema & Draft House. The ones in Atlanta served food and drinks all in an open theater with tables, etc. set up. You can talk and drink, and eat and drink, and drink and drink, all while straining to hear the movie in the background. It’ll become a beer hall, as the theater will begin showing sports events just to attract customers. Then, it’ll shut down as drunks and their obnoxious, violent selves will cause more problems than what it’s worth to keep the business operating.
How about they just upgrade the other Consolidated theathers. They should also include Mary Jane night with Cheech and Chong movies.
Haven’t really analyzed the pros and cons but at first thought, this sounds like a really bad idea.
i hope they’ll offer bigger seats for the porkers swilling down these drinks and junk food.
Agree with some of the posters here. It seems every time I decide to go to a movie two or three people are sitting near me providing endless commentary, critiquing the acting, dialog, etc. Some have even seen the picture and are telling their friend about the upcoming scene! With alcohol these same people are going to be even more louder, obnoxious and unbearable.
Surprised that the City’s Liquor Commission approved this license to sell alcohol at this family entertainment business.
