Honolulu police are investigating an apparent stabbing and fight that occurred on Keeaumoku Street early Thursday morning.
Paramedics treated a 23-year-old man for stab wounds to his abdomen and face at 1:36 a.m., according to an Emergency Medical Services report. Another man, believed to be in his 30s, suffered multiple injuries in an apparent assault.
Paramedics took both men in serious condition to a hospital. No information was released on a possible suspect or suspects.
Inmate fails to appear at furlough center
An inmate is being sought by authorities for not showing up at Laumaka Work Furlough Center on Thursday afternoon when summoned.
The Department of Public Safety said Gilbert Rivera Jr., 53, was supposed to meet with his case manager and did not show up. He was reported missing at about 1:30 p.m., and police and state sheriffs were notified.
Rivera is serving time for burglary and theft.
He is 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs about 170 pounds, with brown eyes and brown hair. He might have a long gray goatee. He also has several tattoos around his face and neck.
Rivera was scheduled for a parole hearing in May, the Department of Public Safety said. He now faces an escape charge when he is captured.
Rescuer brings injured woman ashore
Off-duty lifeguards rescued a woman who was battered against a rocky ledge by a wave Thursday at the Mokulua Islands.
A spokeswoman for the Ocean Safety Division said the 28-year-old visitor had climbed to the windward side of one of the islets with a friend when a wave hit her.
A lifeguard on a rescue watercraft put the woman on a sled behind the watercraft and transported her to the Kailua boat ramp.

Man charged in Big Isle fire
Authorities charged an Ocean View man Thursday night with arson and other offenses related to a house fire Tuesday afternoon in Ocean View.
James M. Thomas, 38, was charged with first-degree arson, first-degree terroristic threatening and four counts of second-degree reckless endangering.
Thomas was being held at the Kona police cellblock on $64,000 bail, pending his initial court appearance scheduled for today.
Police said the house was a total loss, with damage estimated at $145,000.
Investigators determined that Thomas intentionally started the fire at the home where he and his family lived, while two women and two teenage boys were inside, police said. No one was injured.
Duo arrested in station fire
A Kahului father and son have been arrested for allegedly spraying gas on a service station pump and setting it on fire.
A caller reported a fire at 11:31 p.m. Jan. 24 at the Tesoro Gas Express in Kahului.
Maui police said an investigation showed two males in a white SUV arrived at the station at 11:12 p.m. and that one of them entered the store, purchased gasoline and returned to the pump. The two then sprayed gasoline on the pump, lit it on fire and drove away, police said.
On Sunday police arrested the father, 54, on suspicion of first-degree arson, and the son, 32, was arrested Tuesday, also on suspicion of first-degree arson, police said. The two were released pending further investigation.
